How do I find all the books in a series?
One of the very best sources is wikipedia. Search by the series name or the author's name. Under the author's bibliography are the books listed in order and includes a publication date.
Customer asks staff what they recommend. It's good to have a few books that you've read that you feel or in the pheomenal category, one from many genres or age groups. You can ask the customer for a book they really enjoyed reading. It's good to read a nonfiction and fiction book from the NYT bestseller's list once too.
Customer is looking for books with a certain type character, location, or theme. Gale databases has Books and Authors which lets you search by types, characters, settings, themes, and so on.
Customer asks for another book like one they already enjoyed. It's sometimes hard to match the intensity of a favorite book. One of the best readalikes websites I've found is www.goodreads.com. Also google the books name and readalikes--libraries sometimes have readalike pages that are helpful.
